Garrett Scantling, OLY

Born May 19, 1993 is American Decathlete Garrett Scantling. An Episcopal School of Jacksonville Graduate and 2011 State Champion in the Pole Vault. Garrett went on to the University of Georgia where he competed in the Decathlon under Coach Petros Kyprianou. He was a 6 time NCAA D1 First Team All American and a 4 time SEC Champion in the Heptathlon and Decathlon. After coming in 4th place at the 2016 U.S Olympic Trials, Scantling would wait 3 years until coming back to the sport of track and field, and ultimately would win the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials by more than 200 points. He placed 4th in the 2021 Olympic Games and would go on to win the 2022 U.S. Championships, his fourth US Title, by a score of 8867. Which makes him the 9th best Decathlete in World History and the third best American behind only Ashton Eaton and Dan O’Brien. Garrett currently teaches Sports Performance and coaches three sports at Episcopal School of Jacksonville with plans, after another three year break, to come back for next year’s U.S. Championships, with a shot at competing in Tokyo, Japan for the 2025 World Championships.
